The effects of New Media websites on social interaction

In order to scrutinize the implications of new media on social interaction and personal relationships, one must first examine the definition of new media. According to PC magazine new media is the concept that new methods of communicating in the digital world allow smaller groups of people to congregate online and share, sell and swap goods and information. It also allows more people to have a voice in their community and in the world in general. As technology evolves and new media websites such as blogs, Face-book, and Wiki’s are emerging every other day, one cannot stop wondering what price society pays by improving its ways of communication? Is our demand for better and faster technology coming at a great cost, by weakening and eventually the eliminating of our face to face interaction? What consequences and implications will such a scenario have on our Network Capital? Are we a society that is on the verge of anomie? In the following research, I will try to demonstrate the relationship between New Media social interaction. The investigation will pay attention to the services that such websites offer as well as the needs that they so conveniently satisfy. I will also examine the significance of face to face interaction between individuals and society as a whole. Research done on the subject will be highlighted to draw my conclusions.

  1. I feel that although new media enhances our abilities for networking, the possibility of losing face to face interaction will never totally die out. I for one am one that prefers to interact face to face than online.
