Check Out Social Networking Sites

I visited some social networking sites which I am also a member. I chose to cover them not only because I know them but also because each have a different purpose. Surprisingly enough they are all social networking sites. Starting with facebook; the interaction is fairly simple. Loading a picture interact with friend (after you approve them) and keep tract of you “friends”. It seemed to me that most of the people I approve as friends are not really my friends. They are people I like to be in touch with on my own terms- when I want to. And this I believe is the all essence of Facebook- keep in touch with friends through pictures, chats, messages and other when you the user want to. Twitter on the other hand has different interaction. Say everything you want in 140 characters (apparently if you want to say something you have to chose your words very carefully) . And your followers can listen to what you want to say. Business also uses it to get closer to their customers. It allows counsomer to voice their opinion to senior management without the usual bureaucracy. The next one on my list is Yelp. Great business idea. If you visited a business and had an experience you would like to share then go head and post it. I wish it was that easy. First you registered as a member ( yes you can be denied). Part of the registration requires you to give your email which give yelp the right to send you a lot of emails. In the business point of view its cost about $350 for the basics program and a little over 400 for other high level programs. And yes, you can eliminate bad reviews. After all you are paying for the service. If you chose not to pay then you (as a business) might find yourself having bad reviews for years to come. And no matter how hard to work to correct the problem, it would never be erased. The last one is one of my favorite Skype or MSN Messenger both with a very similar concept. Talk, chat, video chat or even play games, with members that are signed in. My brother leaves in Australia and this is one of the best way to communicate. The interface is easy there are almost no rules and you don’t have to expose yourself to an extent you don’t want to. Very reliable system and go great if you have a video camera.

  1. Hi Ido,

I find MSN Messenger to be more coverable IM client when it comes to relatives out of the country as well. However, I think even that is being gradually replaced with Facebook.

  2. i have participate in two social networking sites. one is Facebook and another one is Twitter. i use Facebook to interact with my friends and even my friends and my teachers from high school. It is very convenience for us to communicate since we all are in different places. For Twitter, i only use it for my class if my professor request us to use it. Some professors would use Twitter as teaching tool. but i think Twitter can only use for short sentence because its limited of characters. it is good tool for students to get in touch each other and know each other more quickly, because we don't need to right a lot, just one or two sentences is enough.
